Minwax ™ oil stain – left to dry for 2 weeks – 2 coats ESP 155 epoxy sealer and primer – 4 coats of India Spar Varnish (note ESP 155 and Varnish not for sale in California)

Here is a plan for its best long term use outside (similar to treatment of wooden sailboat masts the stay up for years).

1) Seal – prime and protect all surfaces with our clear epoxy sealer, ESP 155 – one or two coats. This will waterproof and seal the wood, providing a stable surface for the coatings to follow. Not for sale in southern California.

– A topproblem solving coating – best seller

2) If a thicker smoother epoxy base is desired (the ESP 155 puts down a very thin layer of resin), brush on a few coats ofBASIC NO BUSH MARINE EPOXY. This is a clear, thin epoxy, but like all epoxies it will yellow outside. It needs step 3 or 4 to protect it from UV yellowing damage.

3) Use marine India Spar Varnish over the ESP 155 or BASIC NO BUSH MARINE EPOXY covered wood surfaces. This provides UV protection, a warm feel and some coating thickness. Our warm tone dye can be added to the varnish to darken it a small amount for a richer and darker finish. Use several coats. Varnish can be smoothed and waxed to a mirror like finish. Note: this is the old fashion varnish, not polyurethane. Not for sale in California.

4) Optional Step: Our Acrylic Poly UV Plus is a two part clear poly very similar to auto clear coat (not for sale in California – best sprayed but can be brushed) that then goes over the ESP 155 epoxy primer and/or the fresh varnish. Apply a few thin coats (thin coats much better then thicker coats due to the solvents involved). Not for sale in California.

I bought some ESP 155 as a prime coat and used your India Marine Spar Varnish on top – unbelievably good! Forty year old mahogany seats in my dingy look as good as the brand new gunwales. Not sure how well it projects on the camera – dark basement- but looks so, so good!John 1/15

Hi, I train spray painters in Queensland Australia the technical aspects of Polyurethane paint. However some people just cant get the difference of the two major types. Polyester vs Acrylic. I would like to use your excellent discussion paper in my training as an unbiased view and give credit to author Paul Oman and your company.
