Ricardo Domingos Barbosa Pereira(born 6 October 1993), known simply asRicardo, is a Portuguese professionalfootballerwho plays as afull-backfor English clubLeicester City.

After starting out atVitria de Guimarães winning the2013 Taça de Portugaland being the competitions top scorer in the process he signed withPorto, being part of the squad that won the201718 Primeira Ligabut also spending two years on loan to French clubNice.

An international since 2015, Ricardo representedPortugalat the2018 World Cup.

Born inLisbonofCape Verdeandescent,[1]Ricardo began playing youth football with localC.F. Benfica, signing in 2010 withAssociação Naval 1º de Maio. He moved toVitria S.C.after only one year, completing his formation with theGuimarães-based club.[2]

On 1 April 2012, Ricardo made his first-team andPrimeira Liga debut, playing 12 minutes in a 31 home win againstF.C. Paços de Ferreira.[3]He scored six goals in as many games in the201213 editionof thePortuguese Cup,[4][5]including the 21 winner inthe finalagainstS.L. Benficaas theMinho Provinceside won the tournament for the first time in their history.[6]

On 16 April 2013, beforethe seasonwas over, Ricardo agreed to joinFC Portoon 1 July, moving alongside teammateTiago Rodrigues.[7]He alternated constantly between the first andthe second teamsduring his early tenure, also being reconverted into afullbackby managerPaulo Fonseca;[8]his maiden appearance in theUEFA Champions Leaguetook place on 26 August 2014, when he replaced injuredCasemirolate into the 20 home win overLille OSCforthe play-off round.[9]

In summer 2015, after only 33 first-team appearances in two seasons combined, Ricardo was loaned for two years to French clubOGC Nice.[10]He made his debut inLigue 1on 12 September, playing the entire 01 home loss toEn Avant de Guingamp.[11]

In April 2016, Ricardo was voted as the French Leagues best full-back by theInternational Centre for Sports Studies.[12]

On 17 May 2018, a €25 million deal was agreed for Ricardo to move toLeicester Cityof thePremier League.[13]

Ricardo won 35capsforPortugalat youth level, scoring 12 goals. He was part of theunder-21 squadthat finished second at the2015 UEFA European Championship, contributing with four starting appearances and netting in the 50 semi-final drubbing ofGermany.[14]

Ricardo was called up to the full side for the second time on 6 November 2015, ahead offriendliesagainstRussiaandLuxembourg.[15]He made his debut in the former match, featuring eight minutes in the 01 loss inKrasnodar.[16]

Ricardo was selected by managerFernando Santosfor his2018 FIFA World Cupsquad.[17]
